ASUS Zenbook Pro 15: design, performance, specs, see the reviews

Share

Laptops specifically designed for content creators have probably mushroomed in recent years, including the ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 OLED, which from the name alone, of course, you can guess which part is favored.

This ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 OLED laptop is specifically designed to give users the ability to be creative anywhere and anytime. So, all the features of the ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 OLED are of very high quality. They are starting from the screen, performance, battery life to portability.

Design

In terms of design, the appearance of the Zenbook Pro 15 looks very familiar and is typical of Zenbooks in general. Big because the dimensions of the screen are indeed large, so it is very reasonable. But quite portable.

Its weight is still slightly lighter than the average gaming laptop, reaching 2kg. The outer finish is okay, quite elegant with the off-center ASUS logo. Of course, it looks more versatile when taken to the office or cafe. Even though it looks normal, this laptop already has MIL-STD 810G certification. Alias passed the extreme temperature test to the drop test, though.

From the side, it looks fierce thanks to the ventilation holes that are designed to be large, similar to a gaming laptop. The screen itself can’t be opened with one hand, of course, but with the ErgoLift design, the keyboard will be slightly raised and tilted. Provide extra comfort while providing space for ventilation below, plus more optimal audio output.

In my opinion, what looks a bit less premium is on the inside of the ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 OLED, especially the keyboard area and its surroundings. It feels a bit plain. But it’s not a big problem because the eyes will automatically point to one, uh, two screens at the top and bottom.

Screen

As for the screen, this ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 OLED (UX535) has a 4K HDR OLED screen, full (100%) sRGB & DCI-P3 color coverage, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a touchscreen. When looking at the laptop screen is like seeing a flagship smartphone screen in a (much) larger size. Very comfortable! Let alone watching Netflix movies, just viewing the default Windows 11 wallpapers is convenient. Plus, good touch response for tap and scroll. It’s pleasing to the eye, as well as accurate for those who work for visual content, both photos, and videos.

The bezel is also made quite thin, with a glossy screen surface, aka not anti-glare. The screen is very comfortable on the eyes, but it does become a little reflective for outdoor use. But not so much of a problem because it can be lit quite bright, exceeding 400 nits.

Even though the dimensions are large, the port situation on the Zenbook Pro 15 is not entirely a relief. The types are quite complete, indeed, but the numbers are relatively small. On the right, there is only DC-in, audio combo jack, and one USB-C port (Thunderbolt 3)

On the reverse side, there is one USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, HDMI 2.0, and an SD card reader. Yup, for each type of USB port, there is only one. Well, at least the last slot will be a breath of fresh air for photographers for practical data transfer. While the rest is spent on air ventilation holes.

Keyboard

The Zenbook Pro 15 keyboard itself is quite comfortable. There are no complaints starting from the key travel and size. Of course, it needs adjustments from laptop users without a Numpad because the letters are a bit to the left. There is an Fn lock that makes it easy, plus the tilt of the ErgoLift hinge makes it more comfortable. Well, what’s new for me, is the ScreenPad 2.0 on the touchpad.

Maximize productivity. Zenbook Pro 15’s touchpad includes additional features for multitasking. Besides being a regular touchpad, of course, it can also be a shortcut for certain applications and even run applications from the main screen.

Zenbook Pro 15 Performance

For performance, Asus Zenbook Pro 15 is powered by an Intel Core i7-10870H CPU (8-core, 2.2GHz, up to 5GHz). And is supported by an NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti GPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a very spacious M.2 NVMe PCIe storage of 1TB.

The chipset used by the laptop is not the newest generation. That way, I don’t think it’s a problem because the battery is durable. Of course, with flashy specifications, its performance will feel overkill for users who want to buy this laptop for office work only.

The external GPU that Zenbook Pro 15 brings is not equivalent to a gaming laptop in the same price class, but it is capable enough to run several game titles with graphic adjustments or professional photo editing applications to video editors, of course. The temperature of this laptop is also relatively awake.

Maybe because of the optimal ventilation on the left, right, and back, yes. When used in a quiet room, the fan noise is relatively quiet for a laptop as big and powerful as this. And if needed, the fan speed can be maximized through the default software from ASUS.

Zenbook Pro 15 Battery

For the battery, the Asus Zenbook Pro 15 is equipped with a very large battery capacity. Up to 96Whr 6-cell! But it’s only natural. The Zenbook 14 Ultralight light laptop can carry a capacity of up to 63Whr.

The presence of a large battery on the Zenbook Pro 15 is very important, considering the screen is far superior to most laptops, lights up brighter, and has a very high resolution. For daily use by prioritizing browsing, it can be lit for approximately 8-9 hours if you’re at the cafe during the day with full brightness (show mode), 5-6 hours. Impressive.

Unfortunately, this Zenbook Pro 15 OLED cannot support only a 65W GaN charger, aka it needs a special charger from the sales package. The dimensions are large, quite heavy, with an output of 150W. Charging will certainly take a little longer due to the large battery.
