Samsung chipset SGRAM GDRR6X launches at blazing fast speeds

Share

Samsung recently launched their latest chipset product, the SGRAM GDRR6X chipset. Samsung has started testing for the next generation of graphics memory chipsets. And they are known to have tested the speed of the memory chipset from SGRAM GDDR6X.

And the SGRAM GDRR6X chipset is claimed to have a speed that is quite much higher than the GDRR6. This time, the sample they used is the 16Gb model and operates at 20 Gbps and 24 Gbps data transfer rates.

They use memory chipsets K4ZAF325BC-SC20 and K4ZAF325BC-SC2. This code is already listed in the Samsung product catalog, so what they are testing is not a chipset engineering sample.

That way, the 16Gb 20 Gbps and 24 Gbps Samsung GDDR6 SGRAM chips will come in a 180-pin FBGA package. This chip is compatible with currently available graphics cards, which will run with new software and controllers.

This surprised many because NVIDIA previously said that GDDR6 would not be able to have speeds above 19.5 Gbps. And Samsung can go through with that statement by partnering with Micron to create a new chipset.

The SGRAM chip can provide up to 768 Gbps of bandwidth over a 256-bit bus. This is a stark contrast when compared to the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, which has a bandwidth of 512 Gbps.

However, it is still unknown which GPU chipset can really maximize the potential of this GDDR6X SGRAM. NVIDIA is said to still be using the graphics memory chip they currently use.

Therefore, AMD is expected to be able to use this high-speed GDDR6X SGRAM on GPUs that use the RDNA 3 architecture.
